Tonbridge Grammar School Art Exhibition at RVP
We are thrilled to announce that Royal Victoria Place has once again generously offered Tonbridge Grammar School the venue for its annual IB Visual Arts Exhibition.
The centre has provided space for the local school to showcase the artistic talents of nine Year 13 students who are currently completing their International Baccalaureate Diplomas.
Located on the Upper Mall, the exhibition includes painting, drawing, printing, mixed-media, ceramics, sculpture and digital artworks for the local community to contemplate and enjoy.
Open from Wednesday 26th March until Tuesday 6th May, visitors to the centre can explore the vast array of artworks created by the students, which capture their individual ideas and interests inspired by the wider world around them.
Our students are guided through a series of taught workshops and inspired by personally chosen artwork and artefacts to develop a personal vision for the art they want to create. Through personal interaction, each student arrives at a personal theme for exploration with the aim to develop their creative and critical thinking skills in the resolution of a focused body of work for exhibition.
Alongside each artwork, the students have also provided a Curatorial Rationale, which aims to explain their thinking behind their creations and the reasoning behind their choices regarding their approach to imagery, media, techniques and processes and how they hope the audience to view and make connections through the way work is displayed.
Nicky Blanchard, Centre Manager at Royal Victoria Place, said: “We’re delighted to be able to host the Visual Arts Exhibition for a sixth year and provide a space for the students of Tonbridge Grammar to show off their artistic talents. We hope that this display will bring joy to all those who see it and will serve as a reminder of the young talent in the local area.”
Jago Tibbits-Williams, who teaches Visual Arts at Tonbridge Grammar School, said ”We are so incredibly grateful to RVP for their continued support of our Visual Arts students. This opportunity is so rewarding to showcase the extraordinary variety of skill, creativity and imagination that these nine amazing young individuals behold. It has been an absolute pleasure working with every one of them in supporting them in realising their personal artistic intentions.
The class sizes for students studying Visual Arts at Tonbridge Grammar School have been notably larger over the past few years, which just shows the increased need for these bright and ambitious young people to creatively express themselves and their ideas about the world in which they live.
Many of our Visual Arts students, who complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma, go on to study creative choices at university including Fine Art, Architecture, Illustration and Digital Animation.”
